Recognizing signs of chronic stress and how to manage it :: An interview on eightWest

With everything going on in society right now you can’t help but feel the effects – both mentally and physically. Changes in your health or the health of a loved one, recent changes in your work environment, and social distancing are taking a toll on both our physical and mental well-being.

Julie Blodgett from Northern Physical Therapy / Ivy Rehab stopped by the WOOD tv studios of eightWest to chat with Rachael Ruiz about how to recognize signs of chronic stress and some unexpected ways to manage it.

Knowing the signs of chronic stress can keep a lot of mental and physical pain at bay. Long term health issues that can pop up as a result of stress include hypertension, heart disease, obesity, depression, and anxiety. If you’re experiencing unexplained fatigue, restlessness, headaches, stomach issues, weight gain or loss, or chest pain you might be suffering from chronic stress. Learning a few proper breathing techniques is vital because that can play a huge roll in reducing those stress levels and relaxing the body.

Julie mentions our Healthy Lungs program, which is ideal for people who have compromised lung and respiratory capacity. Patients may be suffering from COPD, a heart condition, weight gain, or are recovering from COVID-19 (including those “long-haulers” where recovery takes months).
