Back & Neck Dysfunction
Neck and back pain can greatly affect a person’s overall quality of life. If you’re dealing with pain in an area of your neck or back, there are many different therapies designed to treat the spine and bring you significant relief.
Often times back pain is caused by the postures that you are in throughout the day. Even sitting in a poor posture can result in significant back pain or sciatica. You may need a specific exercise to reduce and abolish your back pain. Your therapist can also educate you in proper postures to relieve and prevent low back pain and sciatica. See your therapist at Northern Physical Therapy to receive an individualized program and stop putting up with back pain.Following a complete evaluation, your therapy and education might include a combination of:
- Dynamic Lumbar/Cervical Stabilization and Core Stabilization
- Repetitive movement exercises and the McKenzie approach
- Soft Tissue Mobilization
- Muscle energy
- Strain-counter strain
- Trigger point release
- Joint Mobilization
- Mobilization with Movement
- Segmental Facet Mobilization
- Posture re-education
- Functional training to protect the spine from daily hazards of lifting, reaching, pushing/pulling
- Flexibility and strengthening exercises
- Taping and Bio-feedback for neuromuscular re-education
- Aquatic Therapy
- Return to work training and work conditioning
We have two therapists who are McKenzie certified. Mckenzie Physical Therapy starts with an evaluation using repeated movements and static postures to find the movement/posture that relieves your low back pain and centralizes any lower extremity symptoms (pain, numbness, tingling). Your exercise program is then focused around the movement/posture that is relieving. Your therapist will also educate you in proper postures to avoid the positions of aggravation and how to get into the relieving position often throughout the day until full recovery is achieved.
