IN THIS ISSUEPhysical Therapy MonthWhat is lymphedema APTA’s Mission Workplace injuries Staff: Ann Fox, PT FEELING GOOD!"I came to NPT with neck and shoulder pain. Lisa treated the pain and showed me exercises to improve the areas of my injury. I then worked with an OT and realized the root of my pain was poor ergonomics of my office. We worked with my employer to set up my workstation, monitor and chair to work best for me. The staff members at NPT are courteous and professional and worked to fit my therapy sessions into my busy schedule. I am very pleased with how the entire team got me back and moving and exercising without pain and discomfort in such a short period of time!"Carrie B. October is National Physical Therapy month! Has physical therapy helped you or a loved one? According to a recent national survey, 84% of people who have had Physical Therapy refer family or friends to a Physical Therapist. That’s why this month we are celebrating the benefits of Physical Therapy, including how it can improve mobility, avoid surgery, and eliminate pain. If you know someone who might improve their quality of life with Physical Therapy, please tell them about your experience with NPT. For even more information on specific conditions, finding a physical therapist, or tips to prevent injury, visit www.moveforwardpt.com. What is lymphedema and how can it be treated? Lymphedema is protein-rich swelling that builds up in an arm or leg. It can cause discomfort, skin changes, and increases the risk of infection. Sometimes people with this condition may have a genetic pre-disposition and develop it at birth or puberty but more commonly it occurs following radiation, trauma, surgery or removal of lymph nodes. APTA’s Mission: Physical Therapy helps you Move Forward! The American Physical Therapy Association (APTA) is a national professional organization that aims to foster advancements in physical therapy practice, research, and education. We are proud to say that all of our Physical Therapists and Assistant PTs are members of APTA and applaud the organization’s efforts to build awareness of the benefits of Physical Therapy. To learn more about their current campaign “Move Forward: Physical Therapy brings Motion to Life,” visit www.moveforwardpt.com.Attention Employers: Reduce costs by preventing workplace injuries Workplace injuries cost employers a whopping $50 billion each year. This is unfortunate, considering that almost all workplace injuries are preventable. Prevention is the best way to reduce costs for both employers and their workers. Our work services therapists are experts on body mechanics in the work environment and often recommend even minor changes that can have a big impact on health and safety in the workplace.NPT People Profile – Ann Fox, PT My name is Ann Fox and I’ve been a Physical Therapist for seven years. I graduated from Grand Valley State University and have worked for NPT for nearly four years. Currently I work as a “float” Physical Therapist, providing coverage at all five of our Northern offices. I love this position because of the variety and the opportunity to meet so many people. My area of specialty is in the management of lymphedema. I recently became certified in this area through the Lymphology Association of North America (LANA). I also have a specialty in treating patients who have vertigo, dizziness, and balance problems. |
