I don't know what we (the coaches, athletes, and me) would do without our Athletic Trainer.  Bethany is absolutely the "most valuable player" in our athletic staff.

Do your body good: Become a volunteer!

Did you know that volunteering actually helps you live a longer, healthier life?

Recent studies have shown a strong connection between volunteering and significant health benefits. According to the Corporation for National and Community Service, people who volunteer 100 hours of service per year can achieve healthier, happier lives than those who do not.

ACL Injury Prevention

If you know anyone who’s experienced an injury to their ACL, you know it’s serious business. The anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) is one of four main ligaments that help stabilize the knee joint. It’s also the most commonly injured ligament in the knee. People injure their ACL in one of two ways: first is via a direct blow; for example, when a football player gets hit below the knee joint. The second happens when you rotate or twist your body when your foot is planted. Either way, it can be very painful.

NPT staff members also act as Athletic Trainers at local high schools

Did you know that NPT employs trainers who also serve as the athletic trainers for Coopersville, Cedar Springs, and Grant public schools? If you’ve ever wondered what exactly these athletic trainers offer our local athletes…read on!

NPT People Profile – Mark Garnaat

Mark GarnaatMy name is Mark Garnaat and I am a Certified Athletic Trainer and have been working for Northern Physical Therapy for six years now. Currently, I am working at our clinic in Grant and at Grant High School covering all of their Athletics. Starting in August 2010 I will remain at our Grant clinic, but will be covering all of Cedar Springs High School Athletics. While inside the clinic I serve as an aide to the therapist as well as handling a variety of other patient needs. My job is very rewarding, as I have the opportunity to treat a variety of student athletic injuries, allowing them to return to play the sport they love.

NPT Supports the Del Shannon Car Show at Coopersville Summerfest

NPT’s own Gina Otterbein will chair this event hosted by the Coopersville Rotary August 9-14. The beneficiary of the car show is NEO Forum, which is the Northeast Ottawa County drug, alcohol, and violence awareness and reduction program. Please join us as we support this fun event and important cause! Come meet Gina and John Otterbein and their beloved 1966 Ford Galaxy 500.
