Improve Your Bladder Health With Our Easy TechniquesBladder issues in women (and men) are more common than you probably thought. If you or someone you know experiences bladder leakage, frequent urination, constipation, or pelvic pain, you are not alone. Many adults experience bladder and bowel changes and they assume these changes are due to childbirth, or just a part of getting older. The truth is that many bladder issues are very correctable or manageable through education, exercise and other conservative medical treatments like Physical Therapy.In addition to advice from your doctor and Pelvic Floor physical therapy, here are 6 tips and techniques you can start today to improve your bladder health. Middle & High School Athletes – NPT Summer Boot Camp is Back! If you’re an athlete, you’ll need to stay in shape over the summer to keep in top condition for your game. That’s why NPT has developed a four-week boot camp-style program that focuses on increasing overall strength, flexibility, endurance, agility, and coordination skills. This year there will also be an emphasis on sports nutrition and injury prevention.Boot camp is designed for kids ages 12-18, or students going into 7th through 12th grade. This year's summer boot camp will be held at Coopersville and Wayland schools. Bethany Tillema, the Athletic Trainer for the Boot Camp program, wants kids to prepare to be challenged, but to have a lot of fun too! Dates: June 21-July 23*There will be no boot camp the week of July 4 Coopersville classes are Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 9:30a to 12p Wayland classes are Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 1p to 3:30p Cost: $45 before June 1 and $50 after June 1. Camp includes t-shirt and sports pack. NPT People Profile – Bethany Tillema Bethany Tillema, ATC, is the Athletic Trainer at Coopersville High School. She has worked for Northern Physical Therapy for nearly four years treating the Broncos' injuries. She has also helped out as a patient care specialist in Coopersville and filled in at other clinics when needed. She graduated in 2005 from Central Michigan University with her BS in Athletic Training/Sports Medicine and also has a minor in Nutrition. Bethany lives in Grandville with her husband, Jon, who is a teacher, and daughter, Ellise.
